Fall Theatre Picks

We’re excited for these two upcoming productions, which both feature dear friends and collaborators of The Private Theatre.

Playwright J. Anthony Roman‘s account of his own journey to Colombia is dramatized in Locombia, a “comedic travel writing exodus with music, that explores the frustrations and limitations one faces while being poor in a third world country, and being broke in the USA.” The show is produced by our frequent collaborator, Erin Cherry, through With a Cherry On Top Productions. Here are the details:

DATES September 26th to September 28th, 2013

LOCATION Speyer Hall at University Settlement (184 Eldridge Street, 2nd floor)

TICKETS AND ADDITIONAL INFO Tickets are $18 cash at door, or available at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/443814 or www.janthonyroman.com.

Hamlet Hallucinations

This contemporary retelling of Shakespeare’s tale of the Prince of Denmark comes to us from Italy, where it recently completed a successful run in Rome. Playwright Dario D’Ambrosio’s vision of a schizophrenic Hamlet results in “a show that brings Shakespeare closer to the young audience with a charge of hallucinatory modernity and all the evasive strength of folly.” This production features Private Theatre collaborator Giacomo Rocchini as Hamlet. Here are the details:

DATES October 17 to November 3, 2013

LOCATION The First Floor Theatre at La MaMa (74 A E. 4th St.)
